The Fields Medal is regarded as the most prestigious international award in the field of mathematics. It is one of the highest honours mathematician can receive for his/her outstanding contributions in mathematics attributed to young scientists The name of the award is in honour of Canadian mathematician John Charles Field as he was the key man in establishing the award, designing the medal himself and funding the monetary requirements. In 1936 the first medal was awarded and it has been awarded every 4 years since 1950 at international Congress of IMU.
